Missions Monday. Jefferson Street Baptist Center:Mystery

Mystery - The story of Mike Davis from Jefferson Street Baptist Center on Vimeo.

First, an honest confession.  Poverty terrifies me.  The thought of being homeless is one of my deepest fears.  It's not something I like to think about.  And that fear is sinful.  Christ calls me to run to my deepest fears and trust Him there.  Having said that, I wanted to share this video about a local ministry in my hometown.  Jefferson Street Baptist Center is a day shelter in Louisville KY that "seeks to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the homeless and hurting in the greater Louisville area."

The day shelter provides over 150 homeless men and women a safe, drug-free place to take hot showers, wash clothes, store their belongings, a light breakfast and hot coffee.  Jeff Street also provides mail and phone service to its guests.  Volunteers and staff interact with guests and are able to pair them with appropriate social services (drug counseling, AA, unemployment and veterans benefits, and the like)

Long term assistance is available to men through the Advance Louisville program.

Advance Louisville is a 6 month, residential, gospel-centered program for men whose lives are out of control as a result of drugs, alcohol or some other destructive behavior and desire change. Advance confronts life-controlling problems and empowers men to change through Christian discipleship, Biblical counseling, vocational and life skills training, helpful relationships to assist along the journey and a connection to the local church.

Whether you live in Louisville or anywhere else, there are thousands of like minded gospel missions that need volunteers and donations on a daily basis!   Find them and help where you are!

To help Jeff Street you can make a secure donation using this widget!  I'll also have cool giveaway on Friday that will allow you to assist in this mission.. Stay tuned
